The Writing Center at UAA

The Writing Center for Faculty [for faculty : home]

A Resource For Students

The Writing Center is located on the west end of campus in the Learning Resource Center (Sally Monserud Hall, 118). We help students with writing issues in any subject, as well as with extra-curricular projects such as resumes and scholarship applications.

Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as regular and adjunct faculty, are formally trained to help student at all levels with any of their written work.

However, it should be noted that the Writing Center is not an editing service. We do not simply correct grammar and punctuation errors. What we do it help your students analyze their assignments, generate and organize details, and learn to apply style, grammar, and composition techniques.

Attached to the center is the Computer Assisted Writing Lab with 15 computer stations, a disability support station, and printers for students to use at any time, not simply when they need tutoring.

The Writing Center is open seven days a week during the school year and welcomes walk-ins, scheduled appointments, and online tutoring. Please encourage your students to bring their assignment sheets and textbooks with them when they come to the Writing Center for a tutoring session. They should also come well in advance of the paper's due date.

Classroom visits or Writing Center tours are available (see below).

For more information, please contact the center at 786-6918 or ayrwc@uaa.alaska.edu.

A faculty member can also request to have a Writing Center turor visit their class to inform students about the Writing Center's tutoring services.

A Note on Mandatory Visits:

Make arrangements in advance. Faculty members should not make a Writing Center conference mandatory, unless they make arrangements in advance.

If a Faculty member includes mandatory conferences with tutors, please contact the Writing Center at ayrwc@uaa.alaska.edu at least two weeks prior to the assignment due date so that teh Writing Center can adequately staff the center.
