Diane Swonger, Lead Tutor
bsybee06@gmail.com

My name is Diane, and I am the lead tutor for the UAA Writing Center... which basically means all I do in addition to tutoring is just inputting data. I'm a senior, majoring in English Education, and plan to graduate May 4, 2008. Then hopefuly I will begin the Master's of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) on the 19th of May so that I may earn my certification as a secondary teacher.

Also worthy of note is that I am a book fiend, first and foremost. After that, I love talking about books. I live, sleep, and breathe for books, because they are beautiful and pristine and... heavenly. So, aside from the nerdiness, I love tutoring because it helps me become a better writer as well as helping another person. They say that you only learn something when you're explaining it to someone else, and that is definitely the case in my situation. Plus, it is the best feeling ever, the feeling of knowing that you have helped someone with something they may or may not have difficulty at. Tutoring is not easy, but it is worthwhile.

I am in my last semester of my M.A. in English at UAA. I also teach English 111 under the course title 'Ecocomposition' so I am very familiar with many of the common issues students face when writing. I look forward to working with and learning from all students who seek guidance in the writing center.
